Maaseik – Lourdes Grotto

The Lourdes grotto in Maaseik is located in the town centre. This Lourdes grotto was built next to the church, which is dedicated to Saint Catherine. The Saint Catherine's Church is located at Grote Kerkstraat 15, 3680 Maaseik. The grotto was established on 14 June 1914 and stands against the blind wall on the side of the church.

The Lourdes grotto has been suffering from vandalism. The statue of Bernadette has been destroyed and the image of Our Lady has been pushed out of its niche. Restoration of the Lourdes grotto was carried out in 2014. In 2024, a console standing in front of the Lourdes grotto was also broken.

The Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes has been recognised by the Flemish government as a protected urban landscape.
