Mary gives birth to her Son, who is given the name Jesus. According to the Catholic holidays calendar, this is celebrated with Christmas, on December 25th. The birth takes place in Bethlehem.
Maria's age at the birth of Jesus is unknown. The Jesuit, philosopher, and authoritative theologian Francisco Suárez (Granada, 1548-Lisbon, 1617) is the founder of Mariology. In 1592, he wrote that many Church Fathers and theologians agree on the assumption that Mary was approximately 14 years old when she conceived Jesus.
The Italian theologian, philosopher, and Dominican Thomas Cajetan/Cajetanus (Gaeta, 1468 – Rome, 1534) believed that Mary was between 19 and 24 years old when she became pregnant. Other theologians dismissed this as guesswork.
