The Church of Our Lady is among the most beautiful buildings in Flanders. The church is enriched with art treasures. Many people visit the church daily as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cMadonna and Child\u201d by Michelangelo in the Church of Our Lady, Bruges<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The centrepiece is Michelangelo's marble \u201cMadonna and Child\u201d. The sculpture was created between 1503 and 1505 by Michelangelo Buonarotti (1475-1564). This is the only sculpture to leave Italy during the artist's lifetime. The work was placed in the church in 1514.<\/p>\n\n\n

In addition, many statues, paintings and decorated tombs can be seen. <\/p>\n\n\n

Mary, Refuge of sinners at Our Lady's Church in Bruges<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The 1660 oil-on-panel painting \u201cMary, Refuge of Sinners\u201d was created by Philippe Bernaerdt (1620-1683). Mary is surrounded by angels and above Her, the Holy Trinity is depicted. Below Mary, sinners on earth are depicted with King David, Peter, and Mary Magdalene. This work is also called \u201cIntercession of Our Lady for Mankind\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cThe Adoration of the Shepherds in the Church of Our Lady in Bruges<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The artwork \u201cThe Adoration of the Shepherds\u201d is by Pieter Jansz. Pourbus (c. 1523-1584) and was created using oil on panel. The commissioner, along with their family members, is also depicted.<\/p>\n\n\n

Another artwork is by the Antwerp Baroque painter Gerard Seghers (1591-1651) \u201cThe Adoration of the Three Kings\u201d (1630). It is made of oil on canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The painting \u201cOur Lady of Sorrows\u201d (1528-1535) was created by Adriaen Isenbrandt (c. 1480-1551). The artwork is made with oil paint on panel.<\/p>\n\n\n
