The Church of Our Lady is among the most beautiful buildings in Flanders. The church is enriched with art treasures. Many people visit the church daily as a result.
The centrepiece is Michelangelo's marble “Madonna and Child”. The sculpture was created between 1503 and 1505 by Michelangelo Buonarotti (1475-1564). This is the only sculpture to leave Italy during the artist's lifetime. The work was placed in the church in 1514.

Below Mary, sinners on earth are depicted with King David, Peter, and Mary Magdalene. This work is also called “Intercession of Our Lady for Mankind”.
The artwork “The Adoration of the Shepherds” is by Pieter Jansz. Pourbus (c. 1523-1584) and was created using oil on panel. The commissioner, along with their family members, is also depicted.
